To the Membership:
The 52nd annual Cohn-Rives conference is scheduled for
March 11-12, 2016. The visiting professor will be Daniel
Scott, MD, FACS, Professor of Surgery at UT Southwestern
Medical Center.
Dr. Scott is a son of the city and a graduate of our
medical school. He is currently the Frank H. Kidd Jr. MD
Distinguished Professor of Surgery at the University of
Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He serves as
the Vice Chair for Education and as the General Surgery
Residency Program Director. He is the principal
investigator on over fifty grants, most involving
minimally invasive surgery, simulation, and surgical
education. He has authored nearly forty books or book
chapters, one hundred and sixteen peer-reviewed
publications, and holds four patents. He is a nationally
recognized leader in the fields of Minimally Invasive
Surgery and Surgical Education. We are fortunate to have
him returning to New Orleans as the Cohn-Rives Professor
this year.
The annual gala/banquet will be held Friday evening, March
11th at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in New Orleans which will
be the host hotel. The scientific program and resident
presentations will be held at the state of the art, LSU
Human Development Center, at 411 S. Prieur Street on
campus.
The majority of the program will begin on Friday morning,
lasting throughout the day, and the residents’
presentations will start Saturday morning at 8:00 A.M. The
quizzical titles allude to the content and the presenters
will attempt to “stump the visiting professor”. The
Members of the Cohn-Rives Society are encouraged to share
their experience and expertise on any and all of the
presentations. CME credit has been arranged for both days
through the Louisiana State Medical Society and Our Lady
of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.
Please reserve time to join us to celebrate the 52nd
anniversary of the Cohn-Rives Society for this special
event that now embarks on a journey toward a century.
Take time to enjoy New Orleans, hopefully with beautiful
spring weather, a fabulous history and world renowned
restaurants.
Sincerely,
John P. Hunt, MD, FACS
